A Note from the Ruffled WIFE!

Hello friends! It’s been SO LONG…but if you’ve had your own wedding in the past, I’m quite sure you understand how busy it gets the closer you get to the big day!

I wanted to update you with lots of the details I couldn’t share BEFORE the wedding! Of course, the first of them being THE DRESS!!

Those are the pictures from the Justin Alexander website, but I chose to go without the fancy beaded sash for my outdoor wedding in a field! Soooo, here I am in the dress (and the link to some of the bridal portraits if you want to see them!).

Bridesmaid Gifts

I know I also mentioned awhile back that I would be giving some really cute gifts to my bridesmaids, but I couldn’t put them on here yet. My bridesmaid and old roommate Tiffany is a multi-talented long-time friend of mine, and she handmade clutches for each of my bridesmaids, and we made them all different colors:

I also put some goodies in there for the girls, including lip gloss, tissues, gum & the crystal and pearl earrings to wear for the wedding! I think everyone looked so cute with them at the wedding:

I had SO much fun with the outdoor signage for the wedding:

Hotel Gifts

Our hotel gifts were really fun too…we put two 24 ox. mason jars together with a handle. One had lemonade mix & a mini bottle of sweet tea vodka, and one was full of Chex mix! Each one had a welcome note and directions from that specific hotel to the wedding location. The Holiday Inn lady told our guests that it was the cutest gift she’s seen in the 3 years she’s worked there!

Guest Favors / Names Cards / Drinkware!

If you’re marrying “Mason,” you absolutely MUST use mason jars, right??

We bought bulk mason jars from a wholesaler, monogrammed them with vinyl monograms (“M” for Murchison) and then tied raffia around the top (bows for girls, knots for guys of course!). We then secured an old price tag with metal edging and I had handwritten each person’s name on them. I hung a clothesline outside the tent at the welcome table with the seating charts showing people where to find their seats! Then guests used them all night and then took them home as a souvenir!

♥ ♥ ♥

I will definitely be giving you more details and pictures in the coming weeks…we have not seen out professional pictures yet (these are all from friends and family!) so I am excited to share those when they’re finished!

Our wedding was PERFECT…everything we thought it would be and more. And so far, with a big three weeks under my belt, marriage is great. We are enjoying not running around like chickens with our heads cut off, and we are really happy to be with each other all the time! I’ll leave you with another couple pictures…I can’t let you leave without a single picture of the hubs!!!

Oh yes, and PLEASE check out the post from our photographers, who brought out their new photobooth idea!  HILARIOUSSSSS!!!

HAPPY THURSDAY from the Ruffled Wifey 🙂

Highlights from the Bachelorette

No….not “THE” Bachelorette from ABC…from me.  Sorry if you were excited and now you aren’t.  🙂

This past weekend was my bachelorette party in Holden Beach, NC.  I took the day off on Friday and went down Thursday night with my friend Lauren, who graciously opened her family’s beach up for the girls this weekend.  We had a BLAST and I think everyone really enjoyed their vacation!  I wanted to share some highlights…

The weekend started off with some lovely gifts and yummy drinks!  Lauren made goodie bags for all the rooms that included pink flip flops, pink cups with their names on them and Sharpies to sign all everyone’s cups!  I got white flip flops, a cup, a pink “Bride to Be” tank top and personalized Sharpies that say “Michelle Murchison.”  🙂

Friday night, we went to Paradise Cafe and did karaoke which was VERY fun and hilarious!  Saturday night was out big night out and we went to Provisions for dinner, a delicious place on the island.  When we were about to go in, Lauren said that she had a game for me – all the girls have envelopes with scavenger hunt cards to give to be throughout dinner like “Take a picture with the bartender” or “Sing with the band.”  Some were even interactive, like “Ice the person who gave you this card” which came from Tiffany and it was hysterical.  (from the recent phenomenon “Bros Icing Bros” with Smirnoff Ice….very funny.)

I got the last card from my friend Katie, and it said “Go outside and take a picture with all your girls.”  So we all headed outside and down the stairs and found this…

In the limo, we played another game.  The girls had asked Mason 15-20 questions about our relationship and I had to see if I had the same answers he did.  Mason’s answers were so sweet and actually very true – I matched him almost exactly on every answer!  I really enjoyed that part, it was so much fun.  Then we went to Wilmington and went to a few bars and finished it off with NY Pizza before we got back in the limo and SNOOZED.  All of us.  Haha!

We had a wonderful time playing on the beach, spending time with each other and going out and having fun.  They also threw me a surprise lingerie shower on Saturday afternoon and it was so much fun!  My friends bent over backwards to make things special and I appreciate all of it so much!

…and then I woke up on Sunday and realized I’m getting married next month!

Mason said “That sounds CRAZY!”  And he’s right!  We are excited, but there’s a lot to do between now and then, like move me into our new place this weekend.  Fun fun fun!

A Few of my Favorite (Wedding) Things

this post is dedicated to all the engaged and especially newly engaged ladies out there looking for where to start with ideas for everything wedding (and dedicated to my sweet, sweet friend kerianne who just got engaged herself)!  i wanted to share a few (well, it may turn into more than a few) of the websites that i have clung to since january for inspiration, ideas and advice.

  • wedding blogs – i have combed the internet for my favorite wedding blogs and here are my favorites: Project Wedding (great DIY ideas and lots of inspiration), Classic Bride (beautiful photographs of real weddings and great links to vendors and style ideas), MyWedding.com (gives you the tools to makes your invite list, a free wedding website which we are using for our guests, and you can have people RSVP there too!), 100 Layer Cake (really great ideas all around), Love and Lavender (you will want to copy everything here!) and Green Wedding Shoes (you can look at posts categorized by your type of wedding, from outdoor to barn to church, etc. and the photos are just gorgeous!).
  • wedding photography sites – i look at a lot of wedding photography sites.  a lot.  i loooove looking at LA photogs who photograph crazy expensive, over the top weddings because like i always say, i think you can pretty much figure out how to do anything that you really love for much cheaper (if not free!) with creativity and some time and effort.  here is my favorite “fancy photog” – Jasmine Star – her personality really comes through on her blog, but her photos are absolutely stunning but very true-to-life.  her subjects are always oh-my-gosh breathtaking and the venues are unbelievable!  click on “most recent posts” to see her blog, and check out that dress on this link today with the huge rosettes all over the skirt…i LOVEloveLOVE that dress!  now, as far as local charlotte, nc area wedding photography, there are so many great ones!  here are some of the very best:  of course, our photographers Elizabeth Scott Photography (love!), The Schultze’s (another husband/wife team…so creative and fun!), Seth Snider (a friend of mine with a great eye for beauty, and such a NICE guy!!), Visio Photography (every photo on here is absolutely beautiful) and Kristin Vining (she totally rocks the charlotte wedding scene, that is for sure…she’s ll over the place!).  i do have to tell you, these people get booked up FAST so start contacting them early!!  it’s so much fun to meet photographers, they are just amazing and fun and super creative!
  • ShopStyle.com –   i am using this to find dresses for all the wedding occasions (showers, rehearsal, bachelorette, etc.), looks for shoes online and really to look for anything!  you can search for certain colors, styles and keywords for clothing, bags and shoes and it pulls from websites all over the internet to find what you’re looking for!  for example, if you type in “purple ruffle shoes,” here’s what you get!

since i pretty much just overloaded you with fun and exciting links, i will leave it at that for now!  i hope these things inspire you as you start (or finish) planning your wedding!

i have bridal shower #2 this weekend in charlotte and i am so very excited!!  my MOH katie is coming into town and i am excited!!  in honor of this, i give you another photo of katie and me:

i hope you have a WONDERFUL weekend!

Good Bride, Bad Blog

I know, I know….shame on me for not blogging pretty much at all lately.  I don’t even know how to explain myself, I am ashamed.  But let’s move on!

After way too much time, I would like to present to you……our Save the Date postcard!

Yes, friends, that is the spot we will be getting married in at my parent’s home!  And I cannot wait to share my invitations with you after I send them in a couple weeks because (hello!) they have the same theme carried in them!  A lady at my mom’s church who is just getting into full-time photography took this picture for us and her husband put together the postcard and had it printed through the company that prints their programs at church!  It was an awesome, less expensive option and they turned out GREAT!

It has been so much fun coming up with creative ways to do the things that I see in magazines or on blogs.  You really can have most anything you want at your wedding if you are a) patient enough to shop around, b) resourceful with the people you know and the things they are good at doing and c) if you have a glass of wine at night sometimes when you get done with everything to keep from getting too overwhelmed.  🙂

Let’s see…what else can I share with you to make up for all this lost time??

Well, I have really great bridesmaid gift ideas too but I can’t share those because my lovely bridesmaids do look at this sometimes!  I will share those after the wedding, along with everything else that’s top secret!

Here are some other creative things we have been working on…

My dad made wooden boxes for our centerpieces, and mom is staining them!  That will still give the centerpieces a rustic feel but the flowers will make it look pretty and soft.  Speaking of flowers, I have to share this particular blog I found with a beautiful, yet inexpensive way to use baby’s breath as a main “flower” in your wedding!  This is going to be perfect for our outdoor wedding, but even indoors, there are gorgeous ways to use this inexpensive yet full and pretty flower option!

Since it’s hard to predict how hot or cool it may be at the end of September in North Carolina at 4:30 PM outside (but it’s safer to go with hot!), we are printing programs that double as fans – they will be similar to the picture above but not exactly…they will actually be three “tiered” and tied at the bottom so that people can fan them out and use them!

I also wanted to share a couple pictures from my first shower in Raleigh a few weeks ago with all my college friends!

The shower was at Coquette in Raleigh and the decor was great!  My friend Melinda made the ruffly paper flowers and had picked up about 15 vintage vases and put them down the whole table, and even let me take them home at the end of the day to use at the wedding!!  They also got cupcakes from a cupcake shop in Raleigh that were SO cute with wedding dresses and “M’s” on them.  We had a great time and people were so generous with their gifts.  Showers are just incredible…people are so giving and you just feel very overwhelmed with happiness of having all the people around you who you love!  In fact, we realized we needded to register for more after that shower because we got so much, and I still have 3 to go plus the wedding!!

I hope you enjoyed this small update, and I hope I will have more time to keep this updated before the wedding!!  Only 77 days to go…it’s crazy how quickly this engagement period has passed us by but it’s also really exciting to get to the fun showers and parties, and house hunting and dress fittings and pictures!!  I hope you’re having a great weekend….we are house hunting all weekend so back to it!

Always a bridesmaid…

can’t believe I’m the bride!

Today on the way to work, I was reminiscing about all the weddings I have been a part of in the past few years…and about how sometimes I would go through that “always a bridesmaid…” feeling, especially when for many years I didn’t even had a date to the weddings I was in!  Of course, I could have brought a random friend, but you know what I mean…a real date!  I always went alone because mainly, it wasn’t worth the hassle of trying to occupy someone when I was really there to help the bride and do things for her!  And I had a blast…I have ALWAYS enjoyed weddings, even when things weren’t seemingly “going right” in my own life, I have always been so truly happy for people when they get married and especially happy to be right there beside them.  It’s always a fun time, and there’s no better excuse to see your friends multiple times in one year!

I thought I would share that with you, and especially those of you who feel like you’re always the one going to a wedding and may never be the one in the white dress!  It will come, and usually in a different way than you ever would have thought or planned for yourself.  And it’s so much sweeter that way!

I thought it would also be fun AND funny to put together what I like to call my “9 Dresses” collage, as well as a few other memory-filled pictures from past weddings!

There are SO many stories that go with these!  Let’s see…

Jeanna and Dan – I was actually sewn into my silver dress because the zipper wouldn’t work at crunch time!  I held my arms up over my head and they sewed it right on my body…the photographers had a hayday!  I had to get a pair of scissors out when I got home and have Melinda cut me out!  What a memory!  There’s also this great little photo someone caught at their wedding…

Yes, there’s me in the back holding onto Jeanna’s sister Jamie’s arm…I have never TRIED to catch the bouquet, I was never really a fan of the bouquet toss and I like to call this the “scary bouquet” photo!  Ha!

Brittany and Will – Brittany is my good friend from high school, and the coolest thing that happened with this wedding is that our other good friend Maria just happened to be coming in from Athens, Greece (where she moved back to after high school) and was able to come to the wedding…huge, awesomely fun reunion!  The NOT cool thing that happened at this wedding was this:

This is me and Lisa on the side off I-77..SO CLOSE to the church where the wedding was being held, yet so far when the tread came right off my passenger side tire and we started screaming and came to a screeching halt!  Luckily, Lisa’s now-husband Lee came and changed it for us, and saved the day by driving it to the wedding while another girl came and picked us up to make it before pictures!  The best past was that we had been out for the bachelorette party two nights before and I still had the ‘Honk for the Bride’ sign on the back of my CRV.  Needless to say, we got lots of honks.

Laura and Nick – Laura and Nick’s story is very different than the others.  Laura and I worked together at Campbell and were instant friends…we spent tons of time together after long workdays, and really got to know each other fast.  I was supposed to be in her wedding last August but unfortunately, her father passed away in January before the wedding unexpectedly and plans changed.  They ended up having a smaller destination wedding in Jamaica, which was definitely best for their family and I wasn’t able to be there, but we still had her showers and bachelorette party here in NC.  Although that part of this wedding isn’t necessarily a positive memory, it is a memory nonetheless and something we will never forget.  I was glad to be there for Laura during such a difficult and happy time in her life.  And boy, did we have FUN at her bachelorette party!

Ames and Brian – Amy is one of my co-workers in my current job, and she is another person who I became fast friends with…our Monday night “dinner and American Idol (AI)” nights were famously fun, especially with Amy’s karaoke during commercials.  I remember when Amy first started going out with Brian, and we would figure out what she should respond with on email, or how long she should wait to call him back…you know, the things girls do.  🙂  I was so honored to be a part of their wedding because they are just the most golden-hearted people you’ll ever meet!  The funniest stories from that wedding probably come from the bachelorette party where we wore nametags and I became fondly known as “Juicy Lee” and our friend Leah as “Mary Kitty.”  Although there are many photos I could share, I will share just one so that you can see the get-up we had for Ames:

Lindsay and Nick – Linds is one of my very closest friends from college, and we were RA’s in the same dorm for half a year followed by roommates for 2 years…definitely some of the very best years of my life!  I don’t mean to brag (cough, cough), but I am actually the one that officially introduced Linds and Nick our freshman year which I am very proud of!  They are the most solid, incredible people out there and I am so glad we are all of the same understanding that we will be friends forever – no way we won’t!  We visit each other at least twice a year (they live in VA) and they are both two of my very best friends.  Their wedding was the closest I’ve ever been to having a cryfest up at the front…it’s just very emotional to watch your close friend get married, but even more to watch two of your best friends marry each other.  I didn’t really take tons of pictures at their wedding (SO not like me, but I was so busy!) but I do have 6 CD’s of them at home from Linds!  But I will share another picture with you:

Michelle & Linds…Wedding Director extraordinaires!  Lindsay and I did our fair share of wedding directing, and this is a short from our friends Betty and Josh’s wedding…so much fun!  Linds still does some in VA, but we have this not-so-secret dream to open our own business one day and do this together 4 lyfe!  (I can hear Nick in my head right now going “There’s no time like the present…open your business now…JUST DO IT!”)  Maybe we should listen!

Lisa & Lee – Lisa (affectionately referred to as “Lisa Lisa”) is my “childhood friend” who I have grown up with since 3rd grade!  She and Lee met in college and they were married last August in a beautiful wedding in Charlotte.  I had so much fun at their wedding, as I always do at weddings where it feels like we get to have a reunion!  All of our friends, and all of our friends’ parents, were at the wedding and there was just something so homey about that!  I truly wish that I had a funny picture to go with this, like our friend Lauren fist pumping while the band played, but since I don’t, I will leave you with this picture I took of Lisa before the wedding…GORGEOUS!

All of this to say, all of these wedding memories that I have been a part of REALLY make me happy to look back on, so I am TOTALLY excited that we are embarking closer and closer on our own wedding!  I am also looking forward to all the weddings that haven’t happened yet, knowing that there is so much more fun to come!

I hope you enjoyed this little piece of me and of my wonderful friends…I am blessed beyond belief in that department for sure!  I hope you’re having a great week!

And the winner is…

This beautiful bridesmaid’s dress!  It’s David’s Bridal Style F13722, and the cost is $120!

It turned out to be the cheapest dress I was looking at, but also the most like what I was envisioning which is perfect!  All the girls seemed to like the dress when they went to try them on which is also great.

And here are some of my beautiful bridesmaids in the dress (which will be dark purple and not blue)…Katie, Lindsay and my sister Lauren.

(They might kill me so if I don’t blog for another week or so, come find me please!) 😉

We also picked out the grey tux which is super exciting too!

This is my ghetto picture of the tux…obviously, the red underneath won’t be there and no pocket handkerchief.  We are doing the purple tie (which I took off another manequinn and put on this one) and black suspenders underneath with no vest.  GOOD LOOKIN’ is all I can say.  🙂

Hope you’re having a great Wednesday!

…add one more!

One more addition to the bridesmaid dress search!  I went by David’s Bridal yesterday after work and came across this dress and thought it was very cute!  I will spare you the picture of me in it since I went there straight from the gym, but here it is from the internet (it would be in purple, of course):

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

In other news, Mason and I are going to Kentucky tomorrow morning with my very wonderful friend Katie who I met in college (she also happens to be one of my maids of honor!).  Katie and I have pretty much made it an annual tradiation to take a long weekend and go to Kentucky to visit her lovely family, and we always go to the horse races at Keeneland!  This year, Katie was nice enough to invite Mason to come along so that he gets the Kentucky experience and we will be going to the races on Friday morning in beautiful 70 degree weather!  I can’t wait!

Katie and I last year at the Steeplechase races in Charlotte!

I don’t have a Kentucky picture unfortunately…they were from a film camera and actually printed (gasp!).  Well, I DO have a picture of us from one Kentucky trip before our senior year in college, but that’s when my hair stylist cut my hair off (“on accident”) and I looked like a country singer.  Sooo, that will be left off.  🙂

Happy Easter to you all!

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”

Matthew 28: 1-10

Bridesmaid Dresses – I Need YOUR Help!

Oh maaaaan, bridesmaid dress shopping may get the best of me!  It’s so tough for me to make decisions lately, but I think it’s because we are still making the decisions that will really impact the overall look of the wedding and reception.

My initial thoughts on bridesmaid dresses were:

  • I want a simple, outdoorsy looking dress that will help our wedding look soft & romantic (maybe a chiffon instead of a satin, etc, etc)
  • I want a deep purple/wine color because deeper colors look better on all skin tones
  • I don’t want the bridesmaid dress to be the bright spot of color in our wedding (it’s just not the “feel” we’re giong for) – I want the flowers and decorations to be the things that “pop” so that’s another reason for the color choice

I have now been bridesmaid dress shopping 4 times with various friends, and even drove 4 hours round trip this weekend to Burlington, NC to check out Bridal Mart because they have many of the dresses we were already considering, but they are much less expensive there.  Our search went pretty well but I am still undecided!!  I have 7 gorgeous bridesmaids and I know they will look great in anything so this should not be so difficult!  Mainly, I want to make sure I’m getting the best look for the best price…I don’t want anyone shelling out a mini-fortune for this one-time dress (let’s face it, I’m not going to kid myself with the “they can wear this again” line…).

So, what do you think?  It’s time to voice your opinions, blog readers!  Here are some of the dresses we have looked at so far (envisions these in deep purple and keep in mind what I’m going for here…getting married in a field!!):

This is my FAVORITE dress, but way too expensive…you can’t see it very well here, but it’s adorable and criss crosses in the back!  But it’s out…ridiculously expensive for a bridesmaid dress.

(#9 would be without the satin ribbon…probably something else added to the waist)

After you make your selections, I will come back and tell you the designers and prices from different Charlotte area shops so stay tuned!!  🙂
