A Note from the Ruffled WIFE!

Hello friends! It’s been SO LONG…but if you’ve had your own wedding in the past, I’m quite sure you understand how busy it gets the closer you get to the big day!

I wanted to update you with lots of the details I couldn’t share BEFORE the wedding! Of course, the first of them being THE DRESS!!

Those are the pictures from the Justin Alexander website, but I chose to go without the fancy beaded sash for my outdoor wedding in a field! Soooo, here I am in the dress (and the link to some of the bridal portraits if you want to see them!).

Bridesmaid Gifts

I know I also mentioned awhile back that I would be giving some really cute gifts to my bridesmaids, but I couldn’t put them on here yet. My bridesmaid and old roommate Tiffany is a multi-talented long-time friend of mine, and she handmade clutches for each of my bridesmaids, and we made them all different colors:

I also put some goodies in there for the girls, including lip gloss, tissues, gum & the crystal and pearl earrings to wear for the wedding! I think everyone looked so cute with them at the wedding:

Signage

I had SO much fun with the outdoor signage for the wedding:

Hotel Gifts

Our hotel gifts were really fun too…we put two 24 ox. mason jars together with a handle. One had lemonade mix & a mini bottle of sweet tea vodka, and one was full of Chex mix! Each one had a welcome note and directions from that specific hotel to the wedding location. The Holiday Inn lady told our guests that it was the cutest gift she’s seen in the 3 years she’s worked there!

Guest Favors / Names Cards / Drinkware!

If you’re marrying “Mason,” you absolutely MUST use mason jars, right??

We bought bulk mason jars from a wholesaler, monogrammed them with vinyl monograms (“M” for Murchison) and then tied raffia around the top (bows for girls, knots for guys of course!). We then secured an old price tag with metal edging and I had handwritten each person’s name on them. I hung a clothesline outside the tent at the welcome table with the seating charts showing people where to find their seats! Then guests used them all night and then took them home as a souvenir!

♥ ♥ ♥

I will definitely be giving you more details and pictures in the coming weeks…we have not seen out professional pictures yet (these are all from friends and family!) so I am excited to share those when they’re finished!

Our wedding was PERFECT…everything we thought it would be and more. And so far, with a big three weeks under my belt, marriage is great. We are enjoying not running around like chickens with our heads cut off, and we are really happy to be with each other all the time! I’ll leave you with another couple pictures…I can’t let you leave without a single picture of the hubs!!!

Oh yes, and PLEASE check out the post from our photographers, who brought out their new photobooth idea!  HILARIOUSSSSS!!!

HAPPY THURSDAY from the Ruffled Wifey 🙂

A Few of my Favorite (Wedding) Things

this post is dedicated to all the engaged and especially newly engaged ladies out there looking for where to start with ideas for everything wedding (and dedicated to my sweet, sweet friend kerianne who just got engaged herself)!  i wanted to share a few (well, it may turn into more than a few) of the websites that i have clung to since january for inspiration, ideas and advice.

  • wedding blogs – i have combed the internet for my favorite wedding blogs and here are my favorites: Project Wedding (great DIY ideas and lots of inspiration), Classic Bride (beautiful photographs of real weddings and great links to vendors and style ideas), MyWedding.com (gives you the tools to makes your invite list, a free wedding website which we are using for our guests, and you can have people RSVP there too!), 100 Layer Cake (really great ideas all around), Love and Lavender (you will want to copy everything here!) and Green Wedding Shoes (you can look at posts categorized by your type of wedding, from outdoor to barn to church, etc. and the photos are just gorgeous!).
  • wedding photography sites – i look at a lot of wedding photography sites.  a lot.  i loooove looking at LA photogs who photograph crazy expensive, over the top weddings because like i always say, i think you can pretty much figure out how to do anything that you really love for much cheaper (if not free!) with creativity and some time and effort.  here is my favorite “fancy photog” – Jasmine Star – her personality really comes through on her blog, but her photos are absolutely stunning but very true-to-life.  her subjects are always oh-my-gosh breathtaking and the venues are unbelievable!  click on “most recent posts” to see her blog, and check out that dress on this link today with the huge rosettes all over the skirt…i LOVEloveLOVE that dress!  now, as far as local charlotte, nc area wedding photography, there are so many great ones!  here are some of the very best:  of course, our photographers Elizabeth Scott Photography (love!), The Schultze’s (another husband/wife team…so creative and fun!), Seth Snider (a friend of mine with a great eye for beauty, and such a NICE guy!!), Visio Photography (every photo on here is absolutely beautiful) and Kristin Vining (she totally rocks the charlotte wedding scene, that is for sure…she’s ll over the place!).  i do have to tell you, these people get booked up FAST so start contacting them early!!  it’s so much fun to meet photographers, they are just amazing and fun and super creative!
  • ShopStyle.com –   i am using this to find dresses for all the wedding occasions (showers, rehearsal, bachelorette, etc.), looks for shoes online and really to look for anything!  you can search for certain colors, styles and keywords for clothing, bags and shoes and it pulls from websites all over the internet to find what you’re looking for!  for example, if you type in “purple ruffle shoes,” here’s what you get!

since i pretty much just overloaded you with fun and exciting links, i will leave it at that for now!  i hope these things inspire you as you start (or finish) planning your wedding!

i have bridal shower #2 this weekend in charlotte and i am so very excited!!  my MOH katie is coming into town and i am excited!!  in honor of this, i give you another photo of katie and me:

i hope you have a WONDERFUL weekend!

And the winner is…

This beautiful bridesmaid’s dress!  It’s David’s Bridal Style F13722, and the cost is $120!

It turned out to be the cheapest dress I was looking at, but also the most like what I was envisioning which is perfect!  All the girls seemed to like the dress when they went to try them on which is also great.

And here are some of my beautiful bridesmaids in the dress (which will be dark purple and not blue)…Katie, Lindsay and my sister Lauren.

(They might kill me so if I don’t blog for another week or so, come find me please!) 😉

We also picked out the grey tux which is super exciting too!

This is my ghetto picture of the tux…obviously, the red underneath won’t be there and no pocket handkerchief.  We are doing the purple tie (which I took off another manequinn and put on this one) and black suspenders underneath with no vest.  GOOD LOOKIN’ is all I can say.  🙂

Hope you’re having a great Wednesday!

Ruffled Wedding Shoes?? HELP!

I know this might sound funny, but finding my shoes for the wedding might be one of the hardest parts of this whole thing for me!  I have very bad arthritis in my ankles, and my right ankle is surgically fused so you may have noticed that I never wear heels (because I physically can’t!).  However, because of some complications from my fusion, my ankle isn’t completely flat either, so it’s really best that I don’t wear completely FLAT shoes either.

So, the conundrum is that I need to find shoes in the 1/2 inch-1 1/4 inch range.  But of course, I don’t want just any wedding shoes (I LOVE colorful shoes and wear them on most days).  My ideal shoes would be 1 1/4 inch peep toe wedges or kitten heels with ruffles on the front or back, in PURPLE!  Picky?  Yes!  But I just want pretty shoes.  🙂

So to review, here is what I CAN’T wear:

No pretty ruffle heels for me!

And no cute ruffled flats for me either!

SOOO, I know this might take me awhile to find, and I must find them in the next few months because I need to get my dress altered accordingly, so I thought I would ask for your help!  Keep an eye out if you think of it, and let me know if you find anything!  I’m sure I will find the perfect in between shoes that will give my ankles enough support for the day but it might just take some patience!

Thank you and I hope you’re having a great week so far!

MAN(ic) Monday.

I know I missed Frugal Friday (please forgive me!!) but I was in Kentucky at the horse races winning the big bucks!  I will make it an extra special FF this Friday to make up for it!

Today I want to address an important part of the wedding that I think people tent to overlook:  the groom and groomsmen.  It’s my personal opinion that as far as “looking pretty” goes, the groom/smen get the short end of the stick because it’s just assumed that they will wear black tuxes, cumberbuns and black shiny shoes and basically “fade into the background” as far as the wedding party is concerned.  The girls always look beautiful and bright and the guys sometimes end up taking a backseat…not really standing out but paying the same amount of money to look like penguins (and the worst part is, they have to return their outfits when the rental is up!).

For our wedding (especially because it’s outside), we may end up opting for a softer looking suit in a grey (that is, if we can find one that doesn’t cost and arm and a leg!).  I am really excited about it because I think the guys will stand out a little more than usual, and maybe we can even figure out a way to let them express their personalities a little bit!  How great would purple and grey look together?  (“REALLY great!”)

As usual, my inspirational collage of standout greys (Oxymoron?  I think not!):

After seeing the photo in the bottom left corner, I think my top choice might even be suspenders and ties, and no jackets??  Maybe jackets at the wedding and none at the reception??  Mason’s choice, really, but we’ll see what he thinks!

We are supposed to go tux/suit shopping again this weekend or the next, so we’ll see what we find!  I think it’s so much fun to shop for this when it’s a little different than typical black tux.  Guys deserve to be extra cute too!

JT says wearing grey suits is cool, and as far as I’m concerned, JT always knows best.

Visualize: Wedding Inspiration & Color

I had read about brides putting together inspiration boards to create a visual of what they would like on the big day – to show friends and family, and especially vendors who are helping with those elements of the wedding.

I put together two inspiration boards so far – one for flowers and one for decor – and thought I would share those with you.  I really enjoyed doing this!  You can do picture collages (like I did, using Picasa) or you can even pull out pictures from magazines and collage them yourself!  Either way, this has made a world of difference in communicating my vision to others and in return, other people being able to bring new ideas to the table to achieve the looks I’m going for!

Photo credits for these go to Jasmine Star, Smitten, Amy Free and Story Photographers.

I just LOVE everything in these pictures!!  Wooden signage, wreaths on barns (that is actually the barn in my parent’s backyard), mason jars, wooden arbor, white bulb lights, barrels…the list could go on and on!

Color is something that has been influenced by the overall theme as well.  I was all of my bridesmaids to look good in whatever color I choose, and since we are getting married in September, I would rather the flowers and accessories “pop” than the actual color of the bridesmaid dresses.  I have not chosen a bridesmaid dress yet, but my ideal color would be a deep purple (aubergine, concord) or a deep purple/magenta color (sugar plum, merlot).  My flower inspiration board reflects the choices that I have here in bridesmaid color – I would ideally just love to carry lavender (the flower, not the color) or a soft-looking flower in that color family.  I will either have the girls carry the same color or a mixture of that and an ivory flower.  Need a visual?

Photo creds go all over the place on this one, but especially to two of my favorite wedding websites to stalk follow: Style Me Pretty and Project Wedding (I may or may not also love that one because it happens to be a play on my favorite tv show on Bravo!)

Lavender, peonies (my fave!), tulips and roses….yes, yes, yes and YES!

(PS – I never thought I would want roses at my wedding, but these light pink and lavender roses have such a chic look to them, they are growing on me.  No pun intended.)  🙂

Both of the websites above also have inspiration board links that you can look at to see pages of boards to inspire YOU!  Making these really helped me collect my thoughts and most easily communicate what was floating around in my brain!  Not to mention, I love pictures so this is totally fun for me!  Stay tuned for more inspiration boards as I get to other aspects of planning!  Maybe I’ll even have Mason make one….who knows!
